Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire which is co-organising the event with Tour de France owners Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), says today’s announcement will help the region plan ahead.

“Confirmation of the timings and precise routes in and out of the start and finish towns and cities will help fans, spectators and businesses who can now begin to plan their weekend, where to watch and how to get the best out of the event,” he said. “This is going to be an extremely exciting three days for Yorkshire.”

Stage one from Bridlington to Scarborough will ceremonially start on May 1 at 11.45am outside the Bridlington Spa before the official race start in Sewerby at 12noon. The first stage will see riders tackle the Dalby Forest climb at 1.15pm, sprint through Pickering at 1.40pm, then face climbs at Rosedale and Grosmont before sprinting through Whitby at around 3.10pm and finishing in Scarborough between 4pm and 4.30pm.
