The Yorkshire Schools' Golf Association event was held at Hickleton GC where the sunny early conditions gave way to torrential rain that nearly caused a suspension in play.

Fortunately, due to a combination of the rain easing and the fine work of the greens staff as the course threatened to flood, the competition was completed.

Plus one player Fell shot a 73 while Morrison, who plays off three, carded a 76.

Luke Palmowski (one handicap), another Balby Academy pupil, placed runner-up to Fell in the boys' category with a 74.

Libby Kilbride, of All Saints Catholic High School, is the Under-16 girls' champion following a six-over-par 79.

She finished two shots clear of runner-up Nicola Slater (Penistone Grammar), a four-handicap member of the host club and recent winner of the Spring championship for English Under-16s.

The Under-16 boys' champion was Barclay Brown (Birkdale School), a plus one player from Hallamshire GC, who returned a score of 71.

Last year Brown took away a record from new Masters champion Danny Willett when, aged 14, he became the youngest player to win the Sheffield Plate as winner of the Sheffield Open Amateur event.
