Yorkshire golf: Howley Hall pairing are Yorkshire Challenge Supreme Champions

HOWLEY Hall’s Brian Hill and Martin Barber lifted the Lexus Yorkshire Challenge Supreme Champions title in the three-day event held over three Ryder Cup venues.

They began at Ganton and scored 39 points, an impressive tally, but a full six points behind first-round leaders Jamie Shepherd and Jason Pickett, of Lindrick.

Moving on to Moortown for their second round, Hill and Barber amassed 43pts to catapult themselves into the overall lead. They also produced the day’s winning score on a countback from Tom Booth (Hillside) and Stephen Booth (Turton).

Leaders out last at Lindrick, the pair showed great consistency to add a further 42 points for a three-day aggregate of 124.

Second overall were Gary Myerscough and John O’Hara (Turton) on 118 and third, on countback, were John Wood and Tim Reaney (Lindrick).

The Ganton Series winners were Hill and Barber, the Moortown Series victors were Darren and Jack Richardson from Durham City, on 117, and in the Lindrick Series Jeff Thurburn and Sam Glossop (Chevin) triumphed with 115 points.
