Matilda Shakes set to make Tramlines Festival debut after sold out show at Leadmill

After recently performing at a sold out show at Sheffield’s iconic Leadmill, Matilda Shakes are set to make their Tramlines Festival debut.

Forming in 2019, Sheffield indie rock five piece, Matilda Shakes are certainly garnering attention and plaudits in the Sheffield music scene, and even further afield. Like many bands, just as they were starting to make their mark, the Covid-19 pandemic halted their progress just as they were gathering momentum.

The band have also had changes to the lineup since their formation, with bassist Mat Webster leaving the band for personal reasons, although he is still very much involved with writing songs.

2024 has been a real breakthrough year for the band so far, they sold out the iconic Leadmill in March 2024 with three months to spare and will play their biggest festival slot to date, when they take to the T’Other Stage on Friday 26 July at their hometown Tramlines Festival.

Speaking ahead of the festival frontman James Hallam shares his excitement, “ We are buzzing for it. Ben Hartley (Live Promoter at The Leadmill) helped us get the slot. He messaged me and I was in shock and felt numb. I arranged a group chat video call with all the lads and they were blown away,” he admits.

“When you look at who we are sharing the stage with, The Charlatans- a band who we look up to, It’s just hard to comprehend and it’s an honour,” Hallam admits.

The band’s latest release, Adrenaline, has received rave reviews and has featured on the official Premier League playlist, F1 Tracks, EFL Sounds and both Liverpool FC official playlist and Manchester City’s playlist, with the latter being hand picked by Noel Gallagher too.

The song went down really well, and we knew it was going to be good, but we didn’t expect it to have had the exposure it has. We also got a Spotify editorial playlist from it too, which we were buzzing with,” Hallam states.

The band have a busy summer ahead as they are playing at Barnsley’s Garrison on August 23 and supporting Milburn at the Rock and Roll Circus on August 31 before releasing their next songs in October.

Matilda Shakes play on the T’Other Stage at 3PM on Friday August 26.
