Christmas 2022 in Yorkshire Dales: Christmas events in the Dales including a festive meal at Tan Hill Inn and a Santa’s Grotto at Ingleborough Cave

The festive season is approaching, so we have taken a look at Christmas events taking place in the Yorkshire Dales including Christmas markets and festivals.

Across November and December there will be plenty of things to do to get into the festive spirit ahead of Christmas Day. Children can meet Santa at his Grotto, adults can enjoy a bit of Christmas shopping at markets and fairs and families can enjoy a festive meal with Santa Claus.

You can expect locally sourced food and drink, entertainment for all ages where you can admire the gorgeous scenery of the Yorkshire Dales. In 2022 you can enjoy fun days and nights out with our friends and family at these events.

Many of these events are free to attend and Yorkshire locals and visitors from afar can look forward to a variety of fun-packed activities.

Christmas events in the Yorkshire Dales

Simonstone Christmas Gift & Craft Fair

This event will include a gift and craft fair, stalls, food, drinks and a festive atmosphere where children can meet Santa Claus in Simonstone Hall Hotel.

It will take place on December 4 from 12pm to 4.30pm.

Meet Mother Christmas, Hawes

You can meet Mother Christmas at Dales Countryside Museum who will have a gift for each guest in her workshop and children will get a chance to write a letter to Santa and post it on a twinkly trail.

The event will take place in Station Yard on November 26 from 10.30am to 3.30 and booking is essential. A child ticket costs £8.

Christmas Craft Fair in Hawes

This two-day event will be held at the Market House in the centre of Hawes where a Christmas craft show will take place with a wide range of quality handmade crafts and art products made by local and regional exhibitors.

Crafts will include wooden products, jewellery, handmade bags, cards, knitwear, toys, paintings, metalworks and photography.

The event will start on November 19 at 10am and will end on November 20 at 4.30pm and admission is free.

Santa’s Grotto at Ingleborough Cave

Children can meet Santa in Ingleborough on a range of dates where they can enjoy an underground wonderland in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. Elves will take you on a journey through Pixie Palace, into Rudolf Hall, past Santa’s Shower and into his grotto, where he will be waiting next to a large table of presents.

The event will start at 9am and finish at 5.30pm on a range of dates between December 3 and December 23. Tickets cost £13 each.

Grassington Christmas Market

Visitors will be transported back to the era of Dickens at this Christmas market and guests are encouraged to dress up in Victorian costumes, including the hosts, exhibitors and villagers.

The atmosphere will be festive, you can walk around the stalls and cobbled streets with a mug of mulled wine or hot chocolate, enjoy the local bands and buskers playing their favourite Christmas classics.

Victorian street performers and a Santa’s Grotto will also be there and children can also participate in the torchlit nativity procession that occurs every afternoon at the market.

The event will take place from December 3 to December 10 and entry is free.

Christmas Artisan Market, Leyburn

Redmire Village Hall will be hosting a Christmas Artisan Market which will be selling all sorts of unique handmade items including paintings, greeting cards, soaps, knitted accessories, handbags, wooden craft items and handmade belts.

The event will take place on November 26 from 10am to 2pm and admission is free.

Tupgill Christmas Fair

This Christmas Fair at Tupgill Park will include an array of local independent businesses with their stalls of unique products.

Santa will also be attending the event and there will be activities for all ages. The Santa’s Grotto will be open from 10am and tickets can be purchased on the day within The Forbidden Corner at £4 per child.

The Fair will be held within the bell barn from 10am to 3pm with festive food stalls, Christmas gifts and local businesses.

Sunday lunch is also available at the main restaurant from 12pm until 3.45pm and is available on a pre-booking basis only.

The event itself is free to attend.

A Winter Wonderland Christmas Fair, Leyburn

This luxury shopping event will include a Christmas Fair with designers and artisans perfect for finding your Christmas gifts.

The event will take place on November 25 from 10am to 5pm and November 26 from 10am to 4pm at the Tennants Garden Rooms in Leyburn and admission is free.

Breakfast with Santa, Skipton

The Old Swan in Skipton will be hosting a breakfast with Santa for all guests on December 4 from 10am to 12pm.

The age range is between the ages of two and 10 and each child ticket costs £6. Tickets go on sale on November 16.

Santa and Reindeers Christmas Meal, Tan Hill Inn

This event includes a traditional Christmas lunch for adults and children with a party bag and gift from Santa, a Santa’s Grotto, a meet and greet with Santa’s reindeer and a photo opportunity with Santa.

It will take place at Tan Hill Inn from December 3 to December 23. An adult meal ticket costs £24.95 plus a £0.95 booking fee and a child meal, drink and present (for under 12s) ticket costs £17.95 plus a £0.95 booking fee.

Yore Mill Craft Shop and Gallery Christmas Fair, Leyburn

At the Yore Mill Craft Shop and Gallery you can enjoy a warm cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate and a mince pie. With a range of inspired present ideas produced by a range of artists and makers from Yorkshire and the North of England as well as a shop with a variety of independent makers from across the UK.

The event will be held across two days from December 3 at 10.30am to December 4 which will end at 4.30pm.

Festive Farfield

The Festive Farfield event will be returning to Sedbergh for the last weekend in November and the Mill will be decorated with winter foliage and a selection of unique, handmade gifts from local artists will be available for visitors to browse. There will also be festive fare in the Tea Room and a quiz around the Mill for children.

The event will start at 10.30am on November 26 and will finish at 4pm on November 27 and admission is free.

Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas Fair

There will be Christmas shopping, markets and entertainment in Kirkby Lonsdale as well as the traditional Chalet Village in the Market Square with some delicious food and drinks, gift stalls and an indoor market in Lunesdale Hall.

The event will start at 4pm on December 1 and will finish at 4pm on December 4.
