Drug dealer jailed for running £223,000 heroin and crack cocaine line across Yorkshire

A drug dealer who ran a phone line supplying heroin and crack cocaine between West and North Yorkshire has been jailed for six years.

Abubakr Ahmed was linked to the ‘Khanny line’, which operated between February 11 and June 11 this year.

West Yorkshire Police said the line was valued at £223,380 from the supply of 2.23kg of crack cocaine and heroin.

Officers from the force's Operation Phoenix county lines taskforce carried out detailed enquiries which linked Ahmed to the phone line.

Their investigation culminated in a warrant being executed at his home in Sladen Street, Keighley, on Thursday (Jun 11).

Ahmed, 23, was arrested at the scene.

Officers searching the address found a number of phones, including the handset used for the drugs line.

Multiple individual deals of crack cocaine and cocaine were recovered, along with larger bags of heroin.

Police also discovered a number of weapons, including a knuckle duster stun gun, which is classed as a prohibited weapon under firearms law.

Cash, electronic scales and drugs packaging were also seized.

Ahmed was subsequently charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin, being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and possession with intent to supply cocaine.

He was also charged with possession of criminal property in relation to the cash recovered and possession of an electrical incapacitation device.

Ahmed, of Leeds Road, Bradford, admitted the offences.

The court rejected his claims that he had been coerced by others over a drugs debt linked to his own drug dependency and that he was only holding the drugs on their behalf.

Ahmed was sentenced at Bradford Crown Court to a total of six years in prison.

Detective Inspector Helen Chapman, who heads West Yorkshire Police’s dedicated county lines taskforce Operation Phoenix, said: “Ahmed has been shown to be behind a drugs line that was supplying very substantial amounts of heroin and cocaine between West Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

“He was linked to these offences through a comprehensive investigation by specialist officers who are dedicated to taking down these types of criminal enterprise which fuel other types of crime and serious violence in our communities.

“This is yet another drugs line successfully dismantled by the team, and we hope it will provide some reassurance to the public to see our work continuing to yield positive results like this.”
