Campervan driver dead after crash near Wetherby Services

A man in his 70s has died after he is believed to have suffered a medical episode at the wheel of his campervan.

The driver, from Teesside, collided with a roundabout near Wetherby Services and police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which involved no other vehicles.

He was driving a distinctive silver/grey Ford Transit campervan.

It struck the roundabout near Wetherby Services, where junction 46 of the A1(M) joins the B1224, at around 10.40am on Thursday May 28.

Police believe he had approached the roundabout from the A1(M) slip road, travelling southbound.

Ambulance crews attended but sadly the man was pronounced dead. Police believe he may have had a medical episode at the wheel and are investigating the circumstances of the collision.
