Now Wakefield politician is victim of race hate abuse
The leader of the Conservative group on Wakefield Council, Nadeem Ahmed, has revealed that he has been the victim of racist slurs since the landmark referendum result saw the electorate vote for Brexit.
Coun Ahmed told how he has endured racist abuse shouted at him while he was out running in his Wakefield South ward and while eating at a fast-food outlet in the city centre.

Hide AdHe confirmed that he has reported the incident at the fast-food restaurant to West Yorkshire Police, and an investigation is underway.
Coun Ahmed said: “A lot of people do endure racist abuse and treat it simply as part of their everyday lives, which is totally wrong but a fact of life.
“But I do believe that the problem is getting worse, and people need to take a stand against it. If any good does come of this, it will hopefully be more people coming forward to report incidents.
“The police have been brilliant, and I really hope that anyone else who does have similar experiences comes forward. I did vote for Brexit, but I am beginning to regret that I did if this is what has happened.”
