Boris Johnson ‘bluff and bluster’ does not excuse Dominic Cummings

I DO hope some Downing Street aide is going to show Boris Johnson a copy of Sunday’s Covid 19 briefing so he can see for himself how utterly unconvincing it appeared. Bluff and bluster will not wash in these situations.

To use some vague nuance of the lockdown rules to justify Dominic Cummings’ actions was weak and pathetic. The fact that several senior Cabinet ministers supported this view is also disappointing. By the general population’s interpretation of the lockdown rules, Cummings broke them and has to go.

DOMINIC Cummings highlights the PM’s dependency on his chief adviser. Boris Johnson, guided by Cummings, won the Brexit referendum, secured his leadership of the Tory party and then won a big majority in December’s election.

Cummings is still crucial to the PM in his objectives of achieving his ‘cake and eat it’ exit deal with the EU. As they see it, this will enshrine the democratic mandate that the 2016 referendum granted them.

I WAS very concerned to see the horde of photographers pressing closely round Dominic Cummings as he left his home. They made no attempt to observe the basic safe distancing which is demanded of the rest of us.

I HAVE just watched the interview given by Dominic Cummings to the media. I feel he has been totally hounded.

Yes, he has made a big mistake, but his explanations seemed reasonable because he is working within the government at a critical time.

It seems to have become nasty and vicious and totally negative with the old envy at the heart of it. No wonder Harry and Meghan wanted out of the country.

I SINCERELY hope that the PM is paying Dominic Cummings his wages from his own pocket as he is not part of the Civil Service. A Civil Service employee would have been sacked.

From: Phyllis Capstick, Hellifield.

DOMINIC Cummings used his common sense, and surely that is what we all need to do in order to get us out of this lockdown?
