Reform’s proposal to curb postal voting is scraping the barrel - Yorkshire Post Letters
From: Roger Backhouse, Upper Poppleton, York.
Reform are scraping the barrel with their latest policy plan. Danny Kruger's announcement of their plan to curb postal voting is a direct attack on the right to vote.
He says people who are on holiday during elections are disenfranchising themselves. Utter nonsense. Many general elections have been called at quite short notice when people have already made travel plans and cancellation would be costly.
He might like to consider construction workers I've known. They're often expected to work away from home. Postal voting is essential if they are to have their democratic say.

In my days working on elections as a Presiding Officer I had to have a postal vote in order to vote at all. The same was true for my colleagues, who all had to be at polling stations from 7am to 10pm. No breaks to go home and vote there.
This looks like another Reform own goal. Many who've used postal voting will be appalled by the party's ideas. However people vote, they should not be deprived of that right simply because they are on holiday.
I suggest a slogan for them ‘Say no to no say’. It looks like another own-goal for Reform.
