Police identify Romanian car crash victim

Police have identified a Romanian man who was killed in a collision on the A19 near Northallerton on the evening of Tuesday December 27.

Alexandru Braninschi, who was 24, and from Bucharest, was stood next to the boot of the Skoda Octavia which had suffered a puncture at the side of the northbound carriageway, just past the A684 junction, when a white Fiesta van collided with the rear of the vehicle at about 9.10pm.

Mr Braninschi was in the country visiting friends in the Stockton on Tees area. Two other passengers and the male driver of the Skoda were unhurt.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned yesterday.

A 28-year-old woman, from Seaham, County Durham, arrested in connection with the collision has been bailed as inquiries continue.
