Secret Lottery winner collects £161m jackpot

Europe’s biggest-ever lottery jackpot of £161m has been paid out to a UK ticket-holder, Camelot has confirmed.

A total of £161,653,000 was won in Tuesday night’s EuroMillions draw. The ticket-holder is now deciding whether to go public or remain anonymous. It is not yet known if the prize has been won by an individual or a syndicate.

The lucky UK player matched all five main numbers and both Lucky Stars to land the prize, after a series of rollovers made it the largest ever.

The winning numbers were 17, 19, 38, 42 and 45, and the Lucky Stars were 9 and 10.

Two other UK-based lottery players won £1.7m after matching five numbers and one Lucky Star.

Until Tuesday’s draw, the largest lottery winner in the UK was an anonymous player who claimed £113m in the EuroMillions in October last year.

If the ticket is held by a single player, it will catapult them into 430th place in this year’s Sunday Times Rich List.

The could comfortably buy Private Island Paradise, a 37-acre island in the Central Bahamas which is up for grabs for a mere £47m or celebrate with champagne and the world’s priceiest caviar – a kilo of Almas caviar costs £16,000 and comes in a 24-carat gold tin.
