Willett's way: Danny's boy, wife and green blazer are calling

As he proudly showed off his two-week-old son Zachariah at his local golf club, he kissed him on his forehead and joked: “This is the real trophy”.

Willett was greeted with a heroes welcome as he arrived back at Lindrick Golf Club in South Yorkshire, near Worksop, wearing his jacket, a white shirt and black trousers – and holding baby Zachariah in a carry seat.

Back in his native Yorkshire Willett suggested he would be taking a bit of god’s own county back with him when he returns to the Masters next year.

With his return to the tournament guaranteed for a lifetime, he was asked if he had already planned his Champions Dinner.

He said: “We’ve got a few months to think about that but there will be a little bit of Yorkshire in there.”

Willett was greeted by the club captain Tony Grayson who shook hands with the newly crowned major champion before embracing him.

Posing with his family for photographs the nation’s newest sporting superstar showed how he was bonding with his newborn son. Lifting Zachariah out of the travel carrier, Willett said: “Sorry dude” as he took his son in his arms and cradled him in his green sleeves.

After the photo shoot he said it was nice to be back home with his young family. He added: “It’s better than being away. It has been a long journey back but it is nice to be home.”

Asked about how the last few days had been for her, his wife said: “It has been mind-blowing. Incredible.”

Asked what he plans to do with his four weeks off before his next tournament, Willett said: “We’ve got a couple more interviews to do but we are going to go back and lock the doors and have some alone time.

“Put my feet up and just drink tea and relax and have some family time and think about what we’ve done.”

Reliving his famous victory he said he could not care less if the focus remains on Jordan 
Spieth’s dramatic collapse in the final round. And the Yorkshireman set his sights on more major championship glory.

He said: “I’m a long way behind points wise but it’s always been a goal of mine to be number one in the world,” he said. “It’s the reason you get up in the morning and go training, to go and hit balls and putt.

“It’s what you do and how you go about your daily business to try and achieve something great.

“Fortunately I’ve now tasted the top echelons of the sport and you just want more.

“You want to keep dedicating yourself to working hard and playing good golf and hope to be more and more in them positions on a Sunday afternoon at majors, World Golf Championships and normal PGA and European Tour events. That’s what we work for.

“We’re going to try and enjoy a bit of normal time off and then get straight back to the job in hand of trying to achieve those goals. There’s no targets been set in terms of that (number of majors). I think the only target you can set yourself is how hard you work.”
