Local leagues: Lambert’s record-breaking knock crushes Cleethorpes

YORKSHIRE ECB

OPENING batsman Simon Lambert set a club record 209 not out as York crushed Cleethorpes by 303 runs at Clifton Park.

Lambert showed Cleethorpes’ bowlers no mercy, piling up 30 fours and four sixes. His runs came off 173 balls and took 207 minutes. Lambert had century partnerships with brothers Liam McKendry and Ryan McKendry as reigning champions and current leaders York amassed 379-3 in their 55 overs.

Cleethorpes were dismissed for 79 in 30.4 overs, Jake Murphy and Nick Kay taking 5-37 and 5-38, respectively.

Second-placed Harrogate remain three points behind York after they defeated bottom club Sheffield United by 96 runs. Scott Huntley smashed an unbeaten 130 containing 13 fours and two sixes and shared a third-wicket stand of 107 with George Ross. Jonathon Tattersall and Andy Laws took four wickets each as Sheffield replied with 175.

Yorkshire Academy joined Harrogate on 50 points with a 72-run victory at Scarborough, Will Rhodes top-scoring with 85 and Karl Carver taking five wickets.

Will Root, brother of England and Yorkshire’s Joe, struck 59 for Sheffield Collegiate but they lost by 28 runs at Rotherham Town, for who Ben Sanderson scored 74.

Spinners were on top at Castleford where visitors Barnsley won by 39 runs despite being bowled out for 100 in 37.2 overs.

Eddie Morrison took 4-33 for Castleford who were then ousted for 61 as 16-year-old Callum Bethel took 4-12 from 12 overs and Ali Jahangir 3-22 in 11.4.

Doncaster Town were five-wicket winners at Appleby Frodingham with Felix Odell and Curtis Free grabbing three wickets each.

BRADFORD

PUDSEY ST LAWRENCE blasted the Division One title race wide open after they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Woodlands which enabled champions Cleckheaton to take over at the top.

Third-placed St Lawrence managed to defend a modest total of 141 as they secured a 
10-run win at Albert Terrace.

Only opener Adam Waite (39) made a real impression as St Lawrence were confronted by some good bowling from Chris Brice (5-44). Woodlands, despite a battling 57 from Logan Weston, were made to struggle as off spinner Steve Watts took 4-29.

Cleckheaton, who defeated fourth-placed Farsley by 150 runs, are now 11 points ahead of Woodlands.

New recruit Andy Gorrod made 124 – his first century for Cleckheaton – as he shared an opening stand of 192 with Tim Jackson (92) which was the foundation for a total of 273-9.

Only former Yorkshire player Joe Sayers (63no) made an impression as Farsley were spun out for 123 by Tanzeel Altaf (5-44).

Pudsey Congs finally gained their first victory in nine games as they beat Bradford & Bingley by 88 runs, Australian James Pearson took 6-53 as Bradford & Bingley were bowled out for 180 in reply to Congs’ 268-7, in which Joe Greaves (64) was top scorer.

Congs remain bottom but are only one point behind Yeadon who recovered from 23-5 to chase down Morley’s 129-8 to win by four wickets..

Hanging Heaton scored only 116 against East Bierley, who eased to a six-wicket win.

New Farnley won by five wickets against Lightcliffe, who were dismissed for 109.

In Division Two, Saltaire’s Isra Ullah sensationally too 9-8 as they dismissed Hartshead Moor for 54 in a 185-run win.

CENTRAL YORKSHIRE

METHLEY are the new Premiership leaders after Scholes lost top spot with their first league defeat of the season.

Chris Holliday hammered an unbeaten 60 off 46 balls in Methley’s seven-wicket victory over Ossett, who were toppled for 127 by Sohail Raz (5-39). Methley are three points clear of Scholes who lost by 70 runs to Altofts.

Harry Clewett (4-41) and Daniel Eden (3-31) skittled Scholes for 107 after Clewett (59) and Lee Padgett (56) took Altofts to 177-8.

Townville’s hopes of retaining the title were rocked by a 42-run home defeat against Mirfield Parish Cavaliers, whose match-winner was all-rounder Michael Padgett (56 and 4-39).

Padgett and Muhammed Shahnawaz (4-28) routed Townville for 112 after Ritchie Bresnan (4-29) and Jonathan Booth (2-30) had bowled out Cavaliers for 154.

Rob McFarlane (93) hit the top-flight’s highest individual score of the day and Craig Wood claimed 6-54 as Birstall beat Wakefield Thornes by two wickets.

An 89-run stand between Jean Strydom (55) and Tommy Roy (53) was in vain for winless bottom team Hunslet Nelson in a 27-run defeat at Wrenthorpe, for whom Neil Bourke struck 73 and Jack Rich bagged 5-29.

An unbroken 117-run partnership between Jaycob Curtling (61no) and Stephen Cooper (60no) steered Carlton to a nine-wicket win against Hopton Mills who were kept at 172-9 by Chris Leaf (4-36). Andrew Grey (50) and Mark Ashton (31) led Hopton’s scoring.

Northowram Fields moved level on points with Batley at the top of the Championship by inflicting their first league defeat.

Chris Thompson (21no) and Josh Norcliffe (3no) shared a match-winning unbroken last wicket stand of 24 as Northowram scraped a one-wicket victory.

DUNCAN ALLAN’S seven-wicket haul against Delph & Dobcross helped Shepley go top.

The Kenya fast-medium bowler and accomplished batsman, who was born in Australia, ganged up with Danny Glover (3-27) to dismiss Delph for 146 after opener Dan Wood’s 68 had proved the highlight of Shepley’s innings. Oliver Davidson added 45 not out.

Alex Morris and Sarjinder Pal Singh sent Scholes tumbling to a second successive defeat as Hoylandswaine triumphed by nine wickets at Haigh Lane and climbed into third place.

Scholes were bowled out for 119 in 42.2 overs, Ben Potter taking 3-18. Morris (75) and Singh (42) then shared an unbroken second wicket partnership of 113.

Spinner Paul Cummins conjured up 8-46 in 15.5 overs for Skelmanthorpe, who had half-centuries from Tom Beaton, Irfan Amjad and Bjorn Taylor as they overcame Honley by 108 runs. Another bowler in form was Alex Scholefield, who grabbed 7-44 in 16 overs and made 36 in Barkisland’s 125-run win against Golcar who were out for 90.

Shabir Rashid (105) and Sam Denton (74) had a second-wicket stand of 159 for Holmfirth who defeated fellow strugglers Meltham by 88 runs.

Elland’s Alistair Finn (3-14) and Wasim Qasim (3-23) helped dismiss Slaithwaite for 92 before Australian Daniel Arms hit a half-century in the successful run chase, while Bilal Khiljee took 5-43 in 17 overs and made 41 for Shelley, who defeated Kirkburton by 50 runs.

Two pace bowlers took eight wickets each in the Conference. Oliver Pearson had 8-36 in Rastrick’s seven-wicket win at Cartworth Moor and Lee Booth claimed 8-41 for Thurstonland, who won by nine wickets at Paddock.

SOUTH YORKSHIRE

EARLY_SEASON Premier Division leaders Wath got over their defeat by champions Elsecar in great style with victory over Wickersley,

The hosts had declared at 
287-9, Shaajhan Younis cracking 75, Jordan Lowe 71 and Lesroy Weekes 44no. Derek Mitchell grabbed 5-52 for Wath, who took up the gauntlet and battled to 290-7, overseas star Mitchell scoring 92, which included 16 fours. He was given solid support by Rob Barlow (85) and Sam Drury (46).

Champions Elsecar wasted no time in getting rid of Tickhill for just 74, only James Stewart (36) staying for long, while Luke Townsend grabbed 6-5 as Elsecar cruised to a seven-wicket win. Whitley Hall were another club to take a maximum with a seven-wicket triumph at Coal Aston.

Darfield came in at 199-8, Ali Khan slamming 92 and Pete Hadfield adding 69, against Hallam, who were up for the task, replying with 202-5, Stuart Benzies unbeaten on 84 and Vaidik Raj hitting 66.

Treeton had Whiston back in the pavilion for 125, Scott Jones scoring 54, while Steve Foster took 5-16 before scoring an unbeaten 44 to add to the unbeaten half-century from Scott Cummingham as Treeton eased to a nine-wicket success. The other match in the top flight saw Aston Hall reach 247-7, proving too many for visitors Norton Oakes, who could only reach 193-7.

Only century-maker of the day was Houghton Main’s Tanzeen Ali in Division One. His 109 came in his side’s 267-5 against Norton Woodseats (154) in Division One.

Ali was given solid support by Pete Colbourne (56.

Teenager Adam Turner made 77 in Sheffield Collegiate’s 217-7, against Shiregreen, who were dismissed for 146, Matt Lee taking 5-20.

AIRE WHARFE

ON A day of shock results, form was turned upside down and the top sides in all three divisions – Otley, Follifoot and Horsforth - lost their unbeaten records.

Having been a pale imitation of last season’s championship-winning side and slipping into the bottom two, Beckwithshaw suddenly clicked against the pretenders to their title Otley. Ross Sedgley (100) found the form that put him at the top of the averages last year and with fellow opener Alex Lilley (55) put them on the way to 241-9.

Istikhar Hussain (4-15) had Otley two down before they had a run on the board and Stuart Hudson (6-33) skittled them out for 94.

Second-placed Kirkstall came up against Burley’s Nick Brook in irresistible form. He smashed 127 in 103 balls and, with the help of Jason Wright scoring 82 in 48 balls, Burley raced to 302. Tom Webb, who had picked up 5-48, top scored as Kirkstall put up a spirited response but with Brook taking 4-51 they fell 71 short.

John Swain (59no) and Stephen James (5-31) inspired bottom side Collingham to victory at third-placed Steeton, while half centuries from Tosh Baker and Jacob Rodgers and a 5-49 spell from Dave Amos were the highlights of Pool’s comfortable win over Guiseley.

Half centuries for Ryan Nicholson and Vic Craven saw Bilton pass Ilkley’s 186-9, while 75 from Ben Heritage saw Rawdon grab a one-wicket win over Ben Rhydding.

Rob Winter (49), Martin Kellaway (64no) and Nick Summerscales (5-25) starred as North Leeds beat Follifoot and drew level on points with them at the top of Division Two.

Four wickets each for Jamie Moorhouse and Luke Brooksby saw Illingworth end Horsforth’s impressive start to the season.
