Bradford City boss Graham Alexander's free agent admission plus latest on ex-Hull City man

BRADFORD City manager Graham Alexander says he has no current plans to enter the free agent market – but admits things could change if the League One club are hit by injuries.

Alexander, whose side visit Notts County on Saturdsay lunch-time, is delighted with the club’s summer business, which saw 12 new players arrive.

Former Barnsley man Corey O’Keeffe joined the club on deadline day, with midfielder Kieran Morgan and defenders George Pratt and Hayden Matthews also signing late on in the window.

The City chief feels the club’s bases are covered, but wise to the notion of injuries changing things.

He said: “We're still assessing it. I think we're still looking at it.

"We have to keep our eyes on it, because we haven't got a massive squad. We haven't got excess numbers.

"We've got the perfect numbers if you haven't got any injuries. If you pick up one or two, or two or three, I think we're still in a strong position.

"Any more than that, then we're right on the limit again. So, I think it's important for us just to maintain that openness that we can do something.

"If we can do something financially, that's the thing, because after the window shuts, we have to assess where we are financially and everything like that.

"I'm not looking to add on to what we have right now, but if we do pick up an injury or two, then we have to be aware of it and prepared for that.”

Alexander has confirmed that trialist midfielder Sam Clucas is currently not training with the club after City ran the rule over him late last month.

The 35-year-old, who has previously played in the top-flight for Hull City, was handed an extended trial. Clucas is a free agent after recently being released by League Two Shrewsbury Town.

Alexander continued: “He's picked up a little calf strain at the back end of last week. So, he missed out this week. Obviously, we've been travelling, so he hasn't been with us this week.

“We're just going to pick it up with him over the phone to see where he is on that, because he's travelling from his home to come here. If it was just for a little bit of treatment and we'd not been here, it wouldn't be right to do.”
