Molyneux has now shared a farewell message via Instagram, explaining he was ready for “somewhere new”.
He said: “Thank you, Doncaster. After four unforgettable years, the time has come for me to say goodbye to Doncaster Rovers. This has not been an easy decision at all. I've reached a point, not only in my career but also in my life, where I feel ready for a change - a new city and a completely new experience.
“At this stage of my life, with no family or other commitments tying me to one place, I feel this is the right time to step outside my comfort zone, experience somewhere new and begin a different chapter.

“I hope everyone can understand and respect my reasons for making that decision. From the moment I arrived, the club, the city and the supporters made me feel at home. I've been fortunate enough to enjoy some incredible moments in a Rovers shirt, from special goals and memorable matches to winning promotion together.
“Those are memories I'll carry with me for the rest of my career. To the supporters, thank you for your unbelievable backing through every high and low.
“Your support has meant more to me than you'll ever know and it has been a privilege to play in front of you. For my teammates, the staff and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you for everything. I've made friendships and shared experiences here that will stay with me long after football.
“Doncaster Rovers will always hold a special place in my heart. I'm proud of everything we achieved together and wish the players, staff and everyone connected with the club nothing but success for the future. Hopefully, I'll be welcomed back one day to cheer the lads on from the stands. Thank you for everything.”
Molyneux made a total of 209 appearances for Doncaster, registering 40 goals and 37 assists.
