Doncaster Rovers captain Owen Bailey apologises to fans after 'embarrassing' loss to MK Dons

Owen Bailey has reflected on Doncaster Rovers’ 6-1 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons

Owen Bailey has apologised to supporters following Doncaster Rovers’ humiliating 6-1 defeat to Milton Keynes Dons.

Grant McCann’s men were utterly outclassed at Stadium MK on Saturday (October 31) and failed to prevent a landslide of goals. Aaron Collins netted four for the hosts and Callum Paterson and Marvin Ekpiteta struck late on to add insult to injury.

Jordan Thomas’ 64th-minute effort offered little consolation to Rovers, who dropped to 20th in the League One table.

Owen Bailey’s assessment

Doncaster midfielder and captain Bailey told the club’s media team: “Just apologies to them more than anything else. They always back us with the numbers.

“Obviously, what they've had to witness today is nowhere good enough from a Doncaster Rovers team, from their team, so obviously apologies to them. We just need to make sure that that never happens again.

“There’s a lot of different words you can use to describe it - embarrassing.”

‘Everyone’s accountable’

Doncaster will be back in action tomorrow (November 3), visiting fourth-tier Rochdale for a Jersey Mike’s Trophy clash.

27-year-Bailey said: “It's hard having just come off the pitch to obviously say what I truly think, but [it was] nowhere near good enough from anyone.

“Right now, I think the main thing is that it can't happen. Obviously, we've got a game on Tuesday, but I think we need to speak about that first.

“Obviously, we'll go through it and make sure that doesn't happen again, because that can't happen. I think it's one of them where everyone's accountable. I think everyone's got to look inward, look at themselves.

“Whether that's someone who's played a million games or someone who's made their debut, everyone's contributed to that and everyone's equally to blame and equally contributed to that.

“Everyone's got to look inwards and reflect and review and make sure that doesn't happen again.”
