England World Cup squad: Leeds United's Dominic Calvert-Lewin misses out alongside Cole Palmer and Phil Foden
England name squad for World Cup - with final decision on Leeds United’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin made
Leeds United star Dominic Calvert-Lewin has missed out on a place in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a stellar maiden season at Elland Road, weighing in with 14 goals across 34 Premier League appearances. He made a return to the Three Lions fold in March, but has not managed to book a seat on the plane.
There are plenty of high-profile omissions, with Manchester United’s Yorkshireman defender Harry Maguire among those absent from the final 26-man squad. Manchester City playmaker Phil Foden has also missed out, as have Real Madrid’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White.

Here is England’s 26-man squad for the World Cup.
England’s World Cup squad

Forwards: Anthony Gordon (Newcastle), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Noni Madueke (Arsenal), Marcus Rashford (Barcelona, on loan from Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Ivan Toney (Al-Ahli) and Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa).

Surprise decisions
Calvert-Lewin’s omission does not come as a huge shock, but fans have been left surprised by some of the other decisions made by England boss Thomas Tuchel.
Toney, who plies his trade in the Saudi Pro League, has previously been called up just once by Tuchel yet is in the final squad. Newcastle United defender Livramento has been selected despite missing the past month with a thigh issue, while fellow full-back Spence has been included despite reportedly breaking his jaw earlier this week.
England will kick off their World Cup campaign against Croatia on June 17 before rounding off the group stage with fixtures against Ghana and Panama.
