Former Leeds United and Wolves star once valued at £16m given 'chance' to make return

Former Leeds United winger Helder Costa could be set for a return to Portuguese football after seven months as a free agent.

The 30-year-old left Elland Road by mutual consent in October 2023, over three years on from his move from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a reported £16m. He had fallen out of favour in West Yorkshire, having previously been a regular fixture in the side.

Costa was ever-present as Leeds escaped the Championship in 2020 and was still in the picture as the Whites enjoyed a strong start to life back in the Premier League.

Loan moves to Valencia and AI-Ittihad followed before Costa reported back to Thorp Arch for pre-season training in the summer of 2023. His time back at the club was short-lived and an agreement was struck to end his association with the Whites.

He has spent the last seven months as a free agent, although has featured for Angola at international level during that time. According to Portuguese outlet Record, Costa has a chance to return to Portugal and link up with Vitória de Guimarães.

He is said to have emerged on the club’s radar and a move would not only mark a return to football for the winger. It would also mark his first return to football in Portugal since he left Benfica for Wolves in 2016.
