Former Sheffield United, Everton and Brentford man 'in line' for England role
Since Gareth Southgate stepped down following the conclusion of Euro 2024, the FA have been assessing potential candidates to succeed him as Three Lions boss.
While that process is still thought to be ongoing, Sky Sports have claimed Carsley is in line to take the reins on a short-term basis. It appears the 50-year-old could be in the dugout for Nations League fixtures against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

As a player, Carsley represented the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Everton before moving into the world of coaching. Aside from a spell in charge of Brentford, he has mostly operated behind the scenes at senior level.
Carsley was recently backed for senior responsibilities by Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott, who has worked under him in the England under-21s set-up. As reported by Mail Online, he said: “Lee is an unbelievable manager and an unbelievable guy. He is ready to step up.
"There have been a lot of big clubs sniffing around him and that is credit to himself and his coaching. Whenever I step on the pitch for England I just have freedom to enjoy my football. I feel like he is ready. They are conversations for them (at the FA).”
