Former Sheffield United, Leeds United, Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday men feature in free agents friendly

Former Sheffield United, Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday men were among those included in a squad of free agents for a pre-season friendly last night (August 6).

This summer, the PFA (Professional Footballers’ Association) have held a residential pre-season camp for free agents. Designed to give out-of-contract players a professional pre-season, it has taken in a large cohort of unattached figures.

Last night, a group of players involved travelled to non-league side Stratford Town for a friendly match. The group battled back from 3-0 down to secure a 3-3 draw against their semi-professional opponents.

Fans of various Yorkshire clubs will have recognised an array of players involved in the friendly. Among those featured was midfielder Kadeem Harris, who counts Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley among his former clubs. The 31-year-old has spent the last two years plying his trade in Turkey, following a stint in Ukraine with Metalist Kharkiv.

Also involved was vastly experienced defender Ciaran Clark. Although more commonly associated with Aston Villa and Newcastle United, Clark did have a loan spell at Sheffield United during the 2022/23 campaign.

Another former Blade, goalkeeper Jordan Amissah, was also named in the squad for the trip to Stratford. He was released by Sheffield United at the end of the 2023/24 season having failed to make a first-team breakthrough.

Also included was winger Milan Lalkovic, formerly of Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers, as well as former Leeds United, Huddersfield Town and Middlesbrough winger Mustapha Carayol.

Former Hull City loanee Todd Kane was also part of the squad for the fixture following his Stockport County departure, while there was a place for ex-Doncaster stopper Marko Marosi. Another squad comprised of free agents is due to take on Manchester United’s under-21s today (August 7).
