Former Sheffield United player's Hull City contract extended
John Egan will remain at Hull City until the end of next season after triggering an appearance-related clause in his contract.
The central defender joined from Burnley in February 2025 on an 18-month contract, but has already triggered a new deal.
Despite being in competition with highly-rated Charlie Hughes and summer signing Semi Ajayi for what is usually two central defensive spots in the Tigers' XI, Egan 34 appearances in all competitions for the East Yorkshire club, 28 of them in the Championship.
The 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international started six of the final seven matches of last season as Hull avoided relegation from the Championship on the last day of the season.
He has remained an important figure under new coach Sergej Jakirovic, starting 20 league matches this season, only two fewer than vice-captain Hughes, and 11 more than Ajayi, whose season has been disrupted by injury.
His only goal to date in amber-and-black was a 97th-minute equaliser at Swansea City in September.
Egan, who started 36 of 38 games as Sheffield United finished ninth in the 2019-20 Premier League, captained Hull at home to Blackburn Rovers in August in the absence of Hughes and regular skipper Lewie Coyle.
