Hull City confirm late loan departure as Matty Jacob joins League Two outfit Newport County
Hull City have confirmed the loan departure of a fringe defender
Hull City defender Matty Jacob has joined League Two outfit Newport County on a short-term loan deal.
The 25-year-old is a product of the Tigers youth system and joined the club at under-9 level. He has since made 29 appearances for the club at first-team level, scoring twice.
Jacob was loaned to third-tier Reading last summer but returned early after 16 outings for the Royals. He was unlikely to make Hull’s 25-man Premier League squad and a move away from the MKM Stadium appeared likely throughout the summer.

Matty Jacob seals loan move away from Hull City
He has now been sent out on loan again, this time to Newport in the fourth tier. The Exiles are four games into their League Two campaign and have won just once, losing two and drawing once.
Jacob is out of contract at Hull next year, therefore a permanent move away from East Yorkshire at the end of the season does not appear unlikely.
A spokesperson for Newport said: “Newport County are delighted to announce the signing of defender Matty Jacob on a short-term loan from Hull City.
“The 25-year-old left-back joins County with experience in the Championship and League One, having made senior appearances for Hull City and enjoyed previous loan spells with Gateshead and Reading.
“Jacob came through the Hull City academy and has remained with the club since joining at under-nine level. A left-footed full-back, he is known for his athleticism, technical ability and range of passing.

“The defender spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan with Reading, making 16 appearances across league and cup competitions before an injury brought his spell to an early end.
“Jacob now joins Hayden Mullins' squad for the short term and will provide further competition and depth at full-back as County continue their 2026-27 League Two campaign. Welcome to County, Matty.”
