Newcastle United boss Matthias Jaissle has kept his cards close to his chest regarding the fitness of Amar Dedić ahead of his side’s trip to Leeds United.

The Magpies will do battle with the Whites on Monday night (September 14), looking to remain unbeaten and inflict a first league defeat of the season upon the hosts at Elland Road.

Newcastle United face potential injury blow

Newcastle were in Carabao Cup action away at Millwall earlier in the week and concerns were raised when summer signing Dedić felt something in his hamstring. The right-back, a £29.5m acquisition from Benfica, was substituted at The Den.

Jaissle told Newcastle World: “I treat these things really confidentially. I hope my staff too, that nothing comes out.

“Because first of all, it's about the player and it's about his health. But what I said already after Millwall, it doesn't look too serious.”

After the 1-0 win over Millwall, Jaissle had said: “Amar felt his hamstring a little bit and we did not want to take any risks. But it was also planned that Tino Livramento got more minutes than last time [against Bournemouth].”

Tino Livramento on comeback trail

England international Livramento is on the comeback trail himself and could be an option for Newcastle if Dedić is not deemed fit enough to start in West Yorkshire.

Jaissle said: “I'm happy for him that he got now 45 minutes on a high level against a strong opponent in difficult circumstances playing there in Millwall.

“That makes us proud to see him already on a high level, it's never easy coming back from a long-term injury then performing already mature whilst physically already on a good level.

“I'm also satisfied and happy that he was dealing with the 45 minutes really good, he responded well. It means also our performance department did an excellent job.”
