Leeds United player ratings as defensive players outshine the goal makers and takers
Leeds United claimed a 0-0 draw at Sunderland in a game where gritty qualities were more important than pretty ones.
As a result, the player ratings are weighted to those further back in the team.
James Trafford – some good saves keeping out shots that were not hit cleanly and/or took deflections to keep a clean sheet 8
James Justin – put a shot wide trying to get forward as usual 7
Jaka Bijol – an excellent penalty-area tackle on Chemsdine Talbi just after the forward had come on 7
Tarik Muharemovic – part of a good defensive effort, he had Leeds' first shot on target, though it was nothing to write home about 7
Jayden Bogle – always trying to add something to Leeds' attacking options 8
Ethan Ampadu – did his anchorman job to a high standard as usual, although he did pick up a booking 7

Ao Tanaka – not a day suited to his qualities, though he gritted his teeth well 6
Gabriel Gudmundsson – slightly subdued going forward but did his job defensively 6
Harry Wilson – his first league start since the opening game of the season, but he was unable to take his opportunity 5
Brenden Aaronson – similarly disappointing on a tough day for ball players 5

Dominic Calvert-Lewin – had little to work with, and was denied late on when Luke O'Nien and Robin Roefs reacted quickly to a ball spilt by the latter 6
Substitutes:
Anton Stach (for Wilson, 65) – gave Leeds an upgrade at inside-right 5
Noah Okafor (for Aaronson, 65) – likewise h was an improvement, making a good chance for Sean Longstaff late on before fluffing his lines 6
Lukas Nmecha (for Calvert-Lewin, 85) – N/A
Sean Longstaff (for Tanaka, 89) – had two good chances to win it 5
