Rotherham United's Brandon Williams issues statement as Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes reaches out
Rotherham United’s Brandon Williams has shared a heartfelt statement - and received support from ex-Manchester United teammates
Rotherham United defender Brandon Williams has insisted he is ready to “make the sacrifices” to return to prominence after his recent playing comeback.
The left-back was once among Manchester United’s hottest prospects and made 51 appearances for the Red Devils at first-team level.
He was also capped by England Under-21s but endured a rather sudden fall from grace, encountering legal troubles and leaving Manchester United.
Having been unemployed for the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign, Williams had a brief stint at Hull City before returning to the free agent market.
Now 26, he has signed for fourth-tier Rotherham and made his debut in their 3-3 draw with Shrewsbury Town at the weekend.

Brandon Williams issues statement
Posting on Instagram, he said: “The journey to get to this moment is one I’m truly proud of. The sacrifices, setbacks and moments of doubt, but through it all, I never gave up and never stopped believing in myself or what I’m capable of achieving.
“I’ve learned that sometimes the hardest lessons in life come from your own decisions. Owning them, taking responsibility and choosing to grow from them has been the change I needed to develop a new mindset and a different outlook on life and what really matters.
“Every setback I’ve faced has only made me more resilient and taught me to make decisions that are right for me, my future and the people who matter most.
“Sometimes getting back to where you belong takes more than just hard work and determination. It takes change, love, sacrifice and the courage to leave behind the habits, environments and people that no longer serve you. It means recognising the person you want to become and making the choices every day to be that person.
“This is about so much more than just the game, I’m happier, healthier, surrounded by the best people and more focused and more determined than ever. I’ve learned that you can’t change the past but you can take control of your future.
“Sometimes you have to lose your way to find yourself again, and sometimes walking away from what you’ve always known is the only way to become who you’re meant to be. This is just the beginning of getting back to where I know I belong.
“I’m ready to put in the work, make the sacrifices and do whatever it takes to get there. The focus is back, the mindset has changed and I know what I want. Now it’s time to show it. Thank you to my girlfriend, family, friends and everyone who contributed and helped me to get back here. Comeback’s personal.”

Support from ex-Manchester United teammates
An array of former teammates have reached out to show support, including Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. He replied: “Proud to see you back.”
Ex-Red Devils defender Eric Bailly also weighed in with a message of support, writing: “My boy.”
Williams has put pen to paper at the New York Stadium but it was not easy to win a contract in South Yorkshire.
He had a lengthy trial at the club, featuring in a raft of pre-season friendlies and training for a prolonged period before being offered terms.
