National League: York City face threats from above and below, FC Halifax Town manager's pride

York City will have to get used to the Conference’s only artificial pitch on Saturday but manager Stuart Maynard has warned them to keep their heads up for an aerial bombardment too.

York are at Tamworth for Saturday's 12.30pm kick-off.

With three games to play, they have a two-point lead over Rochdale, their hosts on the final day.

But Maynard has warned they will have to adjust to the division's only 3G surface and a direct style.

“The pitch is a massive advantage,” he said. "But I also think that they are a very good team.

“We’ve got to be prepared to put our bodies on the line.

“It comes in from all angles, they’ve got long throws from both sides, they get it into the channels to get throws in the final third.”

Halifax Town's play-off hopes are slipping away, but there will be no recriminations from manager Adam Lakeland.

Only victory at Yeovil can keep them in the hunt.

"There's moments where we could have been better, taken chances and defended their goals better, but I couldn't be prouder of these lads,” he said.
