Sheffield United find permanent home for Ivo Grbic two years on from his last Blades outing

Ivo Grbic has completed a permanent move away from Sheffield United

Sheffield United have sold goalkeeper Ivo Grbic to Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets.

The 30-year-old was a high-profile signing for the Blades in January 2024, when he was lured from Atletico Madrid.

It did not work out for the Croatian in South Yorkshire and his last outing for the Blades came over two years ago.

After loan spells in Turkey with Çaykur Rizespor and Fatih Karagümrük, Grbic has now linked up with Ludogorets on a permanent basis. Sheffield United have pocketed an undisclosed fee for the stopper.

He told his new club’s website: “This is another step forward in my career. I hope to win the trophies that Ludogorets will fight for.”

A statement issued by the Blades read: “Goalkeeper Ivo Grbić has left Bramall Lane on a permanent basis. The 30-year-old has joined Bulgarian top-flight outfit Ludogorets for an undisclosed fee.

“The Croatian stopper, who hasn't featured for United since August 2024, spent the majority of the last two campaigns on-loan in Turkey. For the record, Grbić played 11 games for the Blades.”

Sheffield United’s transfer business

Grbic could be followed out of the door by playmaker Callum O’Hare, who is closing in on a move to Wrexham. A £7m deal is thought to be in place and the former England youth international has reportedly completed a medical.

On the incomings front, Sheffield United look to have struck a deal to sign former Barnsley defender Liam Kitching on loan from Coventry City. He has slipped down the pecking order in the Midlands following Coventry’s promotion to the Premier League.

Attention will temporarily divert from transfer dealings tonight, when the Blades host Bolton Wanderers in the final hours of the window.
