Mark McGuinness faces 'uncertain' Sheffield United future as transfer claim emerges
Mark McGuinness reportedly faces an uncertain future at Sheffield United less than a year on from his arrival at the club.
The 25-year-old was among the high-profile acquisitions of the summer 2025 window, joining from Luton Town on deadline day and penning a four-year deal.
It has not been plain-sailing in South Yorkshire for the centre-back, who made 26 appearances for the Blades over the course of the 2025/26 campaign.

According to The Star, Sheffield United will not stand in McGuinness’ way if offers come in for the Republic of Ireland international.
While it has been suggested he will not be allowed to depart on the cheap, the possibility of a summer move has not been ruled out. The report has indicated he was signed for a fee in the region of £4-5m last summer.
There is said to be uncertainty over McGuinness’ standing in the squad, with the belief being he may not be a central part of Chris Wilder’s rebuild.
McGuinness has not hinted at any dissatisfaction, although may be tempted to seek pastures new if the alternative is a season on the fringes.

Premier League dream
In an interview with The Yorkshire Post in March, the Arsenal academy graduate and former Sheffield Wednesday loanee outlined his desire to play in the Premier League.
"That's (reaching the Premier League) my goal, the ultimate goal,” he said. “My last couple of moves have been aligned with that.
“That is something I'm still trying to push for. I believe this was the right move and still is the right move for me to get there.
“My drive will always be extremely high until I reach that goal. I take each season as it comes and you can never predict things. Otherwise, we'd all be in the Premier League. I believe this is the right pathway for me.”
