Peterborough United chairman answers question on Sheffield Wednesday interest in Kyreece Lisbie
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has poured cold water on the prospect of a Sheffield Wednesday move for Colchester United’s Kyreece Lisbie.
A highly-rated winger, Lisbie stepped into the EFL last year and enjoyed a strong maiden campaign in League Two. He made 45 appearances for Colchester, weighing in with 11 goals and six assists.
Wednesday are among the many clubs to have been credited with interest in Lisbie, as are their League One rivals Huddersfield Town.

MacAnthony is renowned for his transparency and often engages with supporters via social media. He was asked on X whether Posh would be in the mix to sign Lisbie, who has a twin brother already on Peterborough’s books. Kyrell, a forward, joined Peterborough from Braintree Town last year.
Regarding potential interest in reuniting the twins, MacAnthony said: “No chance. Too expensive wages-wise, been offered by massive clubs for our cap and now bigger clubs in. That’s football. Move on and next!”
He was then asked if Lisbie was Wednesday-bound, to which he responded: “No buddy.”
The summer ahead at Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday will be working under some financial constraints this summer and therefore may miss out on some of their targets. If a raft of clubs target Lisbie in the coming weeks and months, his value could rise to a dizzying height.
However, the lure of Hillsborough cannot be underestimated when it comes to transfer market tussles.
Regarding recruitment, Wednesday’s new sporting director Simon Wilson said: “My transfer policy is about balance; you need young, exciting players, every club needs its own players coming through an academy. And there were some that came through this season, but it’s hard for them.

“You need really good senior players, aged 26-30, that can be the best players in the league. Then you need those at 20-24 who are breaking into the team. Then we need senior players, stewards of the club.
“We want to play in a way that excites the fanbase. I’ve been working with Henrik Pedersen, he was very specific about how he wants to play, which is great for me. But we’re an attractive club to come and play for in this moment. It’s not about finding players, it’s about choosing the right ones.
“We’re very close with a number of things, but doing a deal is hard. But the wind is in our favour, we don’t have to move people out, it’s all about bringing people in.”
