Sheffield Wednesday transfer news: Youngster loaned out in a sign of changing times at Hillsborough
Sheffield Wednesday have sent centre-back Joe Emery on loan to Conference North to gain some experience.
Last season, the Owls' academy players were needed to fill the gaps in a threadbare squad.
But after 18 signings this summer, the emphasis is more on getting players regular minutes at a level more appropriate to their development.
With that in mind, Emery has joined ambitious South Shields on a 28-day loan.

Emery made his debut in last season's League Cup first round when still 18. A league debut against Bristol City followed as one of seven appearances over the course of the campaign.
When it ended, he was handed an extension to the first professional contract he signed in 2025.
“I’m delighted to be at South Shields for my first loan," said the 19-year-old. "This is a great opportunity for me to get my head down and string together a good run of games.
“I love the way South Shields play football, it suits me very well as I’m comfortable on the ball, and I just can’t wait to get started.”
The Mariners have made an unbeaten start to the sixth-tier season, winning five of their seven league games.
