Sheffield Wednesday v Wolverhampton Wanderers: Growing Owls look to increase circle of trust

Henrik Pedersen says Sheffield Wednesday's "performance culture" and trust in one another is growing, as shown by "ugly" displays in their first league fixtures.

Increasing the circle of trust will be on the agenda at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in Tuesday's League Cup second-round tie as the manager looks to use players who have not yet had the chance to show their team-mates they can be relied upon.

The Owls were not scintillating at Leyton Orient in their League One opener, and on the wrong side of a 1-0 at home to Bradford City on Thursday, but their attitude pleased Pedersen.

"We showed our ugly side in the first two games, especially In the first half, where we were very solid in both," he said. "Against Bradford, we were very solid and dominant in the first half. We didn't give away a lot.

"They had an expected goal (score) of 0.34 or something. We want more from the second half."

Including the first-round win over Bolton Wanderers, Pedersen has started 17 players, but central defender Ricardo Santos is still to make a full debut and Billy Mitchell's 69-minutes against the Bantams were his first for the club. Reece James could make a second debut after re-joining on Monday.

"We will make some changes, but we will play with a strong team who can compete," said Pedersen. "The boys grow so much together right now. This performance culture is growing. We were not happy with (Thursday’s) second half, because we want to play with courage and belief.

"We want to play with a big trust, also when we are 1-0 down.

"I'm sure we will learn so next time we come into this situation."
