'What a ride': York Knights veteran Paul Vaughan calls time on illustrious career
York Knights prop Paul Vaughan will hang up his boots after Thursday's final-round clash with Bradford Bulls after calling time on his illustrious career.
The 36-year-old, who represented Australia and New South Wales during his time in the NRL, has made over 300 appearances across stints on both sides of the world.
Vaughan initially moved to Super League with Warrington Wolves before joining York ahead of this season. He has scored eight tries in 27 games for Mark Applegarth's side.
"Rugby league has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember," said the veteran forward.
"What started as a childhood dream became a career and a journey I could never have imagined. I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived it.
"To my family, team-mates, coaches, staff and everyone who has supported me over the years, thank you. You’ve all played a part in a journey I’ll be forever proud of.
"To York Knights, thank you for giving me the opportunity to finish my career doing what I’ve loved since I was a kid. I wish the club, the boys and all the fans nothing but the best moving forward.
"I walk away from the game grateful, proud and with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. What a ride. Thank you."

York have the chance to send Vaughan out on a high as they look to end their maiden Super League campaign in 10th place.
Applegarth is grateful for Vaughan's contribution throughout a challenging year.
"I can’t speak highly enough of Paul," said the Knights boss.
"He chose to join us over a number of other offers to challenge himself – and he’s certainly done that. He’s a man that leads by actions.
"I’ve really enjoyed coaching him and getting to know him and his family. We wish him and his family all the best in the next chapter. He will always be a Knight."
