Where has the work ethic gone in today's Britain? - Yorkshire Post Letters

From: Peter Auty, Great Hatfield.

The UK seems to be in disarray, more police needed, crime rising, NHS in crisis, immigration out of control, more armed forces personnel and equipment needed, more clean energy production, more food production, welfare out of control, floundering government. More of everything is required for a growing population.

Question is where will all the money come from to finance everything and can the country afford it? The taxpayer is already squeaking from higher and higher food and energy prices, businesses are squeaking due to higher NI and other taxes, huge hikes in the minimum wage and the ill thought out and totally unnecessary new employment laws which will cause more and more friction between management and employees, when the way forward should be working together to make businesses successful and profitable.

Seems to this observer that the biggest drain on the UK's finances is to be found in unemployment and immigration, people who take and give nothing back, shirkers in other words.

Couple this with mismanagement and waste in government departments including the NHS and I'm sure there are readers out there who will come up with some figures where money can be saved and diverted to areas where it is most needed, such as defence of the realm, food and energy security.

11.1 million people, excluding pensioners, are receiving benefits of one sort or another, 8.4 million on universal credit, over 5 million not actively looking for work.

Where has the work ethic gone in today's UK, the UK used to pride itself on hard working employees and getting the job done, not any more it seems, why?
