Yorkshire cricket leagues: Samit Patel elevates Hoylandswaine as David Wainwright strikes at the death to preserve Castleford's lead

TO win all of your matches so far this season is no mean achievement.

But to do so when rain has been a significant factor is even more impressive.

Castleford lead the Attis Yorkshire Premier League North Premier Division with five wins from five.

However, the front-runners overcame their most severe obstacle so far in the shape of York at Savile Park.

Cas chose to bat, but their innings was far from classy when they plunged to 48-5, Nathan Johnson (3-16) bagging the first three wickets. However, there then followed the biggest partnership of the match - 35 between keeper Owen Smith (40) and Sam Lingard (10).

But there was little to follow on a used pitch that favoured spin as the hosts lost their last five wickets for just 14, Harry Sullivan taking 4-30 and Tom Backhouse 2-7.

Four Cas players failed to get off the mark, while two York players matched that as they slumped to 20-5, off spinner Ed Morrison taking the wickets of Yorkshire opener Finlay Bean, Breidyn Schaper and Luke Kilby to claim a hat-trick as York slipped to 8-3.

Stands of 23, 19 and 21 then put them back in the game and they were favourites at 96-9.

But David Wainwright came back on and trapped Backhouse lbw with one that kept low to leave Cas winners by one run, Morrison finishing with 6-32 and Wainwright 3-18.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge are 10 points behind Castleford in second place after a comfortable victory at home to Hull Zingari, who were bowled out for 87 after opting to bat

Mark Fisher (5-18) was the destroyer in chief, Tom Shorthouse (24) and Alex Jenkins (25no) helping Bridge to a six-wicket win.

Two points behind Bridge are Harrogate and Woodhouse Grange, who also triumphed. Henry Thompson scored 89 in Gate’s nine-wicket win over Beverley Town, while Grange won a run-fest by 27 runs against Clifton Alliance.

Toby Findlay continued his purple patch with 137 for Grange, Chris Bilton (107) also making a century in a partnership of 209 as they racked up 331-5. Clifton replied with a commendable 304-9, opener George Breheney hitting 90 as Findlay showed his all-round prowess with 4-60.

Keeper Pathum Pawaluge’s unbeaten 100 was influential as Knaresborough defeated Carlton Towers by 66 runs, while Chris Wood’s 103 not out helped Stamford Bridge get off the mark in a 117-run victory over Driffield Town.

Defending champions New Farnley were at home to unbeaten Woodlands in a heavyweight clash in the Bentley Drains Bradford Premier League and made 267-7 after being sent in.

The foundation was laid by openers Aidan Langley (54) and the ever-reliable Steve Bullen (74), and that was added to by Alex Lilley (53) and Ryan McKendry (36), Brad Schmulian replying with 4-59. Lilley then took 3-37, Woodlands slipping to 141-6 despite 51 from opener Matty Weston and 41 from Henry Pearson.

But Muhammad Bilal (52 from 30 balls) and Scott Richardson (42) then added 88, but Woodlands lost their last four wickets for just one run to lose by 37 runs.

Pudsey St Lawrence lead the table by 14 points after Archie Scott (5-42) and opener Mark Robertshaw (79no) helped them to a three-wicket win at home to Methley.

Ben Moffat (100) and Reece Cockshott (5-51) were Bradford and Bingley’s heroes in a 95-run victory at Morley.

Farsley captain Rahul Tangirala (84no) was a key figure as they overwhelmed Pudsey Congs.

It was a red-letter day for Sprotbrough in the Yorkshire Southern Premier League as they notched their first win. They made 182 after being sent in at Hallam, opener Tom Pepper contributing 71 and Parteek Khasa 50, and the latter then took 4-29 as the hosts were castled for 104. Sheffield Collegiate still lead the way after a 45-run victory over Wickersley, second-placed Cleethorpes easily defeated Lincolnshire rivals Appleby Frodingham.

Hoylandswaine are still carrying all before them in the PFW Huddersfield League Premier Division, as former England star Samit Patel starred with the ball this time, taking 6-25 in their eight-wicket win at Golcar.

Moorlands and Rastrick are joint second 10 points behind after victories over Armitage Bridge and Mirfield Parish Cavaliers respectively.

In the Airedale & Wharfedale League Premier Division, Bilton are top after a 46-run triumph at Tong Park Esholt, Rob Taylor (133no) batting through Bilton’s innings. Otley are second after victory at Steeton, captain Josh Atkinson scoring 101 not out, George Huntley 91 and George Myers 87 not out.
