Billy Sharp 'energised' Doncaster Rovers against Stevenage, says Grant McCann
Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann lauds Billy Sharp after leveller against Stevenage
Doncaster Rovers manager Grant McCann could only wax lyrical about Billy Sharp after the veteran’s leveller against Stevenage.
In the build-up to the game, it was confirmed Sharp will leave Doncaster upon the expiry of his contract this summer.
The 40-year-old stepped off the bench for his final Eco-Power Stadium outing in Rovers colours and cancelled out Matt Phillips’ opener.

Billy Sharp lauded after leveller
McCann said: “Billy energised the group for the second half and he did what he’s done throughout his career. I’m really pleased for him to be in the right place at the right time which he’s done so many times.
“He said to me coming off the pitch that he needs four next week at Peterborough to get to 300 goals for his career and you wouldn’t back against him.
“He’s an unbelievable person and character and I just knew he would score today. I could just feel it.
“Billy has had three or four weeks out with the injury and he came on, looked really sharp and got hold of the ball, brought others into the game. He was excellent and he deserved his goal. I’m just delighted for Billy to score in his last appearance here.”

Billy Sharp’s future
Sharp has not yet settled on his next step and believes he could play on for another year. Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield earlier this week, he said: “I can play on another year but I'm not quite sure what I'll do.
“I'm open to opportunities, whether that's another club as a player or whatever. I'll just see. I've only been a free agent once and I ended up going to LA Galaxy. I'll just see what opportunities I can get. It's exciting.
“I'm not saying I won't carry on. I'm leaving that wide open. I've been injured for five weeks and have worked hard to get back. Touch wood nothing happens the next few days and I'll be playing at the weekend. I'll look to play the next few games and then have a think in the summer what I'm going to do."
