Former Huddersfield Town, Liverpool and Swansea City coach among frontrunners for Preston North End job

Former Huddersfield Town coach Mike Marsh is among the frontrunners to take charge of Preston North End.

It took just one round of EFL fixtures for the first managerial exit of the season, as Ryan Lowe departed Preston by mutual consent just days after their campaign opener.

He had been at the helm for two-and-a-half years but left following a 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield United. Marsh has since picked up the baton, stepping up from his role as a first-team coach to take the reins on a temporary basis.

The 55-year-old was in the dugout earlier this week as Preston advanced in the Carabao Cup, defeating Sunderland 2-0 with goals from Ryan Ledson and Mads Frokjaer-Jensen.

At 6/1, he is among the BetVictor frontrunners to land the job on a permanent basis. Only Scott Lindsey and Anthony Barry sit above Marsh in the frontrunners list, with Paul Heckingbottom and David Healy among those considered outside contenders.

Marsh has previous experience of being a manager but only at non-league level, having led the likes of Bradford (Park Avenue) and Northwich Victoria. However, he has worked for an array of professional clubs behind the scenes.

He formed part of David Wagner’s coaching team at Huddersfield and also assisted Steve Cooper at Swansea City. His CV also features work within Liverpool’s academy and with the England under-17s side.
