York City 'keeping tabs' on Southend United's ex-Sheffield United and Lincoln City wing-back Harry Boyes

York City have been credited with interest in a former Sheffield United prospect

York City are reportedly keeping tabs on former Sheffield United wing-back Harry Boyes.

The 24-year-old finished his academy education in South Yorkshire, graduating from Sheffield United’s academy after cutting his teeth with Manchester City.

Boyes managed just one senior outing for the Blades, who loaned him out on six separate occasions before releasing him last year.

The left wing-back dropped into the National League with Southend United and delivered a haul of 10 assists in the fifth tier last term. He helped the Shrimpers book a place in the play-offs, but they were beaten by Scunthorpe United at the eliminator stage.

York City linked with Southend United star

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Boyes is being monitored by League Two newcomers York.

Posting on X, he said: “York City are amongst a number of League Two sides keeping tabs on Harry Boyes.”

Boyes may be a non-league player as it stands, but had loan spells in the EFL with the likes of Lincoln City and Fleetwood Town while on Sheffield United’s books.

He would arguably be an exciting signing for the ambitious Minstermen, who are determined to remain on an upward trajectory after their National League title triumph last season.

York City ambition

New investors were announced by the club earlier this month and they recently recruited the vastly-experienced former Sheffield Wednesday defender Jack Hunt. The arrival of the EFL veteran took York’s summer signings tally to eight.

After York’s dramatic win over Rochdale on the final day of the regular National League season, which sent the Minstermen back to the EFL, co-owner Julie-Anne Uggla said: “Our ambition is to go straight through League Two, to have back-to-back promotions.

“I'm going to give that other Canadian a run for his money. There's David Hopkinson from Newcastle, CEO, Ryan Reynolds of Wrexham, and now there's Julie-Anne Uggla. So watch out, Ryan. we're coming.”
