'Tough conversations' - Marcus Harness delivers candid assessment of Huddersfield Town's dismal season
Marcus Harness delivers candid assessment of Huddersfield Town's 2025/26 season
Huddersfield Town playmaker Marcus Harness has conceded there have been some “tough conversations” about the squad’s shortcomings.
The Terriers were tipped for a promotion tilt in pre-season as they embarked on an ambitious recruitment spree. They made a string of eye-catching additions but finished ninth in the League One table, eight points adrift of the play-offs.
Harness was among the marquee signings secured and has been one of the brighter lights in an underperforming group.
The 30-year-old, who made the move to West Yorkshire from Huddersfield Town, spoke earnestly after the season finale away at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday (May 2).

Marcus Harness’ candid reflection
After completing 83 minutes in a 4-0 win for the Terriers, Harness told BBC Sport West Yorkshire: “It’s a real disappointing season when you look at what we he hoped it would turn out to be, to what it’s turned into. We are really disappointed.
“I personally want to apologise for it. The supporters have been great to be fair. We know where we are, we know where we’re good, as we’ve shown today and we’ve shown on many other occasions, we can do some things really, really well. We know where we need to improve.
“We’ve had some tough conversations, some constructive meetings to hold each other accountable. Obviously, Martin [Drury] and Steady (co-interim bosses) have taken over for there last few weeks and they’ve been bang at it, driving the standards.
“I think, even though we’ve dropped points in the few draws we’ve had where we’ve conceded late, if you look at the bulk of the games, we should have come out with so many points.
“I think there’s been some real good performances in there. That’s exciting. We’ll just go away now, look after ourselves over the summer, and be ready to try and go again.”
Martin Drury’s frustration
A brace from Alfie May and goals from Lasse Sorensen and George Sebine fired Huddersfield to an emphatic victory on the final day of the regular season.
The quality on display was a source of frustration for Drury, who has seen the side drop too many points since he stepped in as co-caretaker.

He said: “I’m frustrated that it’s the last game of the season when we do that. I do think that performance was much more like the first five games we had than the sixth game against Mansfield.
“First off, we know what wasn’t right before that. As I said before, I think we attack teams really, really well. We create lots of chances, score lots of goals, but then we’re questioned on game management and keeping clean sheets.
“I felt today, hopefully, we’ve demonstrated what it can look like in terms of scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet. But again, albeit not getting too carried away, it’s the last game of the season and the pressure’s off. But that being said, I am pleased with how the players went about it today.”
