Leeds United, Sunderland and Norwich City hold 'concrete interest' in Burnley winger

Leeds United, Sunderland and Norwich City are reportedly interested in Burnley winger Manuel Benson.

The 27-year-old was a key figure for Burnley in their promotion-winning 2022/23 campaign, scoring 11 league goals as the Clarets reached the Premier League. However, he found opportunities limited in the top flight.

He was on the bench for Burnley’s season opener against Luton Town, although was unused as the Clarets ran riot at Kenilworth Road. According to the Daily Express, Benson has attracted interest from three of Burnley’s Championship rivals.

Leeds are said to be admirers, as are Sunderland and Norwich City. The Whites are under considerable pressure to recruit following the sales of Archie Gray, Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville, with frustration set to grow if Georginio Rutter departs for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Reports of interest in Norwich’s Jonathan Rowe continue to surface but Leeds have so far been unable to thrash out a deal for the England under-21 international. They are also believed to face competition from French side Marseille in their pursuit of the Canaries wideman.

Benson boasts Championship pedigree and Leeds are thought to be weighing up whether or not to test Burnley’s resolve in the final weeks of the window. Departures do appear likely at Turf Moor, as Scott Parker has a bloated squad at his disposal.
