Barnsley stars in demand

BARNSLEY centre-half Michal Helik is understood to be in discussions with Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town regarding a beat-the-deadline move to the Terriers. The future of the Polish centre-back, who is keen to leave Oakwell to boost his World Cup chances with his national team, has been up in the air all summer. Town, chasing new central defensive options with Matty Pearson out injured, have been in talks with Barnsley about Helik and the discussions are now thought to be at an advanced stage regarding the financial structure of the deal.

Bradford City can look forward to directness and trickery after starting transfer deadline day with the signing of Aston Villa winger Tyreik Wright.

All 11 of our Premier League and Football League clubs will have had different requirements throughout the summer when it comes to putting together their squad for the 2022-23 campaign.

All will have been dictated by permitted budgets and not every team will have so far got everything they want, meaning we could be in for a fascinating day as clubs desperately try to bring in the quality and quantity of bodies they believe they need in order to achieve their aims.

Terriers in the hunt for new faces on deadline day

Huddersfield Town have enjoyed a tough start to the campaign, Wednesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Bristol City leaving them second-bottom in the Championship standings with just one win from six games.

Manager Danny Schofield said last night in his post-match press conference, however, that he was hopefuil of doing more business before the end of the summer transfer window.

He said: “The group of players I have are fantastic and very competitive. Our physical output is always high.

“We have targets in mind before the deadline. Nothing is decided yet, but there could be ins and outs.”
